Can my wife apply for assistance if we are separated?
Joseph M asked:
My wife and I were recently separated. We are not legally divorced or even legal separated, because I have not set up residence yet. She is in a panic right now and wants to apply for everything that the government has, because I guess she thinks I’m going to suddenly stop supporting her, or she wants me to stop supporting her. I have no idea why. Can she legally apply for food stamps, medical assistance, WIC and section 8 housing, if I still have the intent on supporting her through our separation? Could we both get into serious trouble if she got assistance?
We have two kids. One is from her previous relationship.
Also, I do think she plans on not counting my income as hers.

Are there any government assistance programs for a housing down payment?
♫♪~♥ Wheaten Lover ♥~♪♫ asked:
We need $2650 to move by June 1st. Is there any government assistance programs that help middle class, white, married couples with a child? I’ve never taken anything from the government and I think it is my turn… we need to move out and we can’t seem to save any money. Like most Americans, we are living paycheck to paycheck and can’t save any money. We are dong what we can to make some extra cash (my husband is a carpenter on the side and I am a graphic designer who does freelance work in addition to our full time jobs). No one is spending any money for services now due to the economy so we can’t get any side work.
Does anyone know of any government programs or grants we can apply for and how to go about doing it??

medicaid assistance?
Nevaeh asked:
hi, i have a friend who is about 3 months pregnant now and she has no health insurance. she is currently working but the employer does not provide benefits of any sort. she does not make that much an hour i think minimum wage and she is working part time. so she is without health insurance for her and the baby. she knows that she can probably get approve by medicaid to cover the pregnancy expenses but her mother is over age 65 and retired and she is currently on medicaid. and she know that if she were to find another job the insurance company will consider the pregnancy as pre-existing and most insurance companies dont cover pregnancy anyway….or she would have at least have had the insurance for about 6 months or so.
the problem is….if she applys for medicaid will they stop her mother’s medicaid because she is currently living with her mother and she will have to use the same address.
can more than one person in the same household apply for government assistance????

Where do you apply for financial assistance (grants) to modify your home for a handicapped child?
Loon asked:
I am a single mother of a 4 1/2 year old daughter that is physically Handicapped. I just recently bought our 1st home & I am looking for some form of financial assistance to make some modification to the home so that it is wheelchair accessible inside and out. I know that there must be programs (both government & privately funded) to help Lower income families in these situations. I have spent hours on the internet searching & found nothing that is clear… I am hoping someone knowledgeable in this area can help…. THANK YOU!

What types of government assistance can I get while on maternity leave?
deidre asked:
I will be having my baby in the next week or so and am already a week into my unpaid maternity leave. I will be out anywhere from 6-8 weeks with no income. Are there any government programs that can help me out? I’m already on WIC but that just helps out with little things. I’m also taking care of my parents who receive a small SSD check each month, but it’s not enough to even cover the bills. I live in arizona and tried applying for food stamps a couple months ago and was denied because they need a bunch of information from my parents proving that they are American citizens. That will take more time and more money than I have. I would also like to add for those “You should find a guy before going off and getting pregnant…you’re own damn fault for not planning a family”… I was date raped. Hopefully the government will be able to help me out somehow?
In order to get a birth certificate I will have to pay the minimum of at least $20 for each one, not only that their birth certificates are in a different state. So no they are not FREE. I have already looked into it. And they will take anywhere from 2-6 weeks to get.

Government Assistance?
Nikki asked:
I owe Saint Louis University $450. I’m currently struggling financially, but I know that I need to get back into school. This money isn’t from loans…it was the balance left over after all of my grants/scholarships were applied to my account back in 2005.
Does anybody know of any grants or anything from the government that will allow me to pay that debt off in order for them to release my transcripts to another school so that I can further my education? I’m a resident of Belleville, IL but I work in St. Louis, MO…and my place of employment offers tuition remission. However, in order for me to receive it, I have to be accepted to the school. I (of course) have to have my transcripts from SLU to do this.
**Don’t know if it will help, but I didn’t even finish a full semester…I had a lot of family problems and had to leave in order to get a full time job.
I know that $450 isn’t THAT much money…but it’s still alot, considering I only get paid once a month and I have BILLS on top of BILLS to pay as it is….

Could someone please direct me as to how to apply for a form that would allow me to get a government grant?
33492 asked:
Both my husband and I are disabled, he has MS and I have COPD. Our bathroom and bedrooms are upstairs and is becoming more & more difficult to climb the stairs several times a day. If we could obtain the form we could apply for assistance to build a bedroom and bath on the first floor.
Thanking you in advance for any help you can give us.

Are there any government programs offering financial assistance?
MissFr3sh asked:
I have been unemployed for 10 months now and my unemployment insurance has run out. My credit cards are maxed; I cannot get a loan and have had no luck finding a job. (And yes I have looked, have had interviews, have registered with staffing agencies). I just applied for food stamps, but I am about to become homeless.
