My boyfriend and I have a baby and we are trying to get an apartment. I’ve heard of people getting all or some of their rent paid for by the government. What is this program and how do you apply for it?

    The name of the program is section 8. In some states there is a very long waiting list. You must also cannot have an income over the amount set for a family of three or two that is normally set by the state. You can get more information by going to your housing department in your city or your county. Usually the city has a shorter waiting list than the county. Now in some states, section 8 has changed, here in Georgia in order to keep section 8 you must be in school or have a job. I hope this helps!

    Section 8 housing assistance is part of the welfare system. You would apply for it by first interviewing with a welfare case worker and establishing your need. If you are not married and have a baby, I caution you that the system, when you apply for aid, immediately goes after the father for child support, whether he is living with you or not.

    Now, why would you have a child when you can not even afford a place to live? Society today makes NO sense to me. Why should taxpayers, help pay for an apartment for you, your boyfriend and your child? Give me a break!
