Do you think government assistance programs can possible ruin your life with the right circumstances?

Ashley W asked:

Here’s my story: When I was 18, I got pregnant. Yes, it was an accident, but I decided to keep the little guy. After all, I don’t believe in abortion and I am a very strong person, so I decided to go through with it. The father of my child wanted me to get an abortion, so he obviously wasn’t going to help me. I was forced to apply for the Medicaid/Badgercare whatever you call it. I thought it would help me. My parents let me live with them. Now, my mother is possibly the most overbearing, controlling, over-religious woman I know. My dad is a cheating slob, but whatever. Things were going well until the court system started inserting itself into my life. I had to get the father of my child to get a DNA test and pay child support. All of the sudden, daddy wants his baby. His parents are rich so they got him a lawyer. Thus, my parents hire a lawyer too. Not for me, for them. Everybody wants my baby. So, a little more than a year ago I meet this amazing, supportive, loving man that is the best father I have ever seen to my little boy. In the past 6 months my parents have obtained placement rights of my son. I now see how lawyers work and make their money. They don’t give chances either. When someone like my mother is constantly talking to the lawyer who is supposedly supporting me, the result will favor against me. The next review to see who will get custody of my son will take place in June. Me and my fiance are expecting a baby in September and chances are the courts will take my son from me and give him to a starving artist/pothead or a crazy overbearing religious husband and wife who like to cheat on each other and fight every day regardless. My fiance and I both have good jobs and have all hopes of keeping my little boy and raising him together. I never wanted my son’s father involved and my parents have taken over. I really don’t know what to do, I need help, but no matter what happens I will get my son back. What do you think…what can I do?

I think anyone who depends on any one other individual is at serious risk. That individual could be the real dad or the government.

As said above, Get yourself a lawyer.
