What is available as far as government assistance for someone struggling with money?

I want to start out saying that I don’t believe in taking advantage of any government programs and this would be temporary.

I recently finished my undergrad about 6 months ago and am really hurting financially. I took a position in financial planning, and it’s not working out(purely commission). For the last 8 years I have been working fulltime and been paying into the government. I am applying to companies daily with no luck. I just need a little bit of help to get me through these next couple months. Any suggestions?
